This is an important phase in Reza's relationship with Jonny and Charlie. Reza becomes contractually connected to Jonny's company forever. Reza and Charlie are now taking trips to Caribbean islands without Jonny with Reza spending money on things that Charlie will always have and remember where it came from. Reza is showing Charlie another life, and while Jonny fails to keep up his work at home waiting for every update, Reza sends them to him in the manner he chooses, creating the narrative he wants, knowing he's got him under lock-and-key, which is also literally true. The rules that Reza have put in place for Jonny and Charlie continue to expand and evolve to the point where even the lone day where Reza offers the two a moment of semi-normalcy, is taken over by their landlord. The two can make lemonade out of lemons all they want, but when they look back on each moment of their past few months, one man will always be adjusting his cufflinks with a twisted smile.
Seeds of doubt that Reza has already planted are starting to take root and grow. There's little question that Charlie and Jonny love each other dearly, but is Charlie always telling Jonny the truth, and why would Jonny doubt that? Is Jonny doing enough to get them out of the life they've found themselves in? Is Charlie getting everything she deserves, is there a better life for her? Can Jonny or Charlie truly believe anything that Reza says, even when he's right?
Reza is an absolute nightmare of a man and his influence over Charlie and Jonny seems to know no bounds, and as surprises continue to lurk around every corner, it's good for Jonny that he has a team to help him complete his game undistracted, otherwise it's hard to imagine this game ever getting off the ground. There's even more surprises that await Jonny and Charlie, what could possibly make this any worse?
